Dingoden Family Outback Yapper

Welcome to our Family blog. It will try to capture the various asundry activities of our mundane lives, but with an attempt at making it seem not quite so mundane.

The Move Across Town

Back in September we moved across town from a two-bedroom flat with
virtually no backyard to a four bedroom house with a lovely green yard
that is fully fenced in (so the kids can play both in the back and front
yards without Mom or Dad having to worry.) That stretch of time was
quite a blur, so just for the blog history books, we'd like to include
the email we sent out a month or so ago:

---------------

Well we're back online as of last night (Sunday, Sept. 16th). All I can
say about the past two weeks is WHEW -- WE SURVIVED!! I'm absolutely
wiped out, so will have to give you the quick, brutal version.

We got our keys to our new four bedroom home. Incidentally, Logan goes
to check mail AT LEAST FOUR TIMES A DAY! HINT HINT HINT! Please send the
kids (Delenn always expects something if Logan gets something)
snail mail (a post card is perfect) to our new home! He's desperate for
your mail! Two sentences is just fine for Logan (Delenn doesn't even
need any words!!), but he's in love with the mailbox at the moment.

Okay, so that's not exactly the news you were waiting for. We got our
keys on Wednesday (10 days ago) and spent the next four days hauling
lots of things here in the car and truck. We also got a couple of
cabinets delivered (six foot by three foot tall cabinets with doors to
hide away our stuff). We moved around the big furniture and were as
ready as we could be for the big day -- moving day. Things were busy,
but VERY hard as the kids were BOTH under the weather. The move (with a
moving company) took two days and after the stuff had been packed up
from 7/38 Larapinta (Monday) we came home ready to collapse. Yeah,
right! The kids were both up every twenty minutes all night long
groaning and in pain with fevers (a virus). It left us refreshed and
ready for the day on Tuesday when the hundred boxes were delivered!

Oh -- another thing you all were probably waiting to hear about was the
results of our ultrasound. Ready to know the sex of Main baby number
three?!!! Well, so are we. The legs were crossed -- tight--the entire
time! And, unless there's a medical need of some sort that was the last
ultrasound -- so guess we'll all find out in February! (Had we left
anyone out of *that* loop??!! FYI -- this is NOT an IVF baby!!)

We've managed to unpack lots of boxes and more or less clean up the
Larapinta place ready for inspection on Wednesday. Unfortunately we're
all run down. Tony's had a sore throat for two weeks and is often
feeling lousy (though doesn't admit that to the world at large). The
kids too have been generally unwell -- for example, they'll have a fever
of 102 one day and just want to lie around, will feel fine the next and
will have a fever again the next day. I (Liesl) was weathering it all
fairly well until the end of last week when within a period of an hour I
went from feeling okay (not great but had taken the kids to playgroup),
to shooing them to the car and hoping I could make the drive home. I
called Tony at work and wound up in bed unable to move (not even to grab
my water which was 12 inches away from my hand) with severe chills and a
fever of 104.6. The next day after coughing up a bit of blood I went
into the hospital clinic. Seems that I have some sort of bronchial
infection (but he didn't think it was pneumonia). I'm very happy to
report that with just a couple days of antibiotics, I'm more or less
(cough cough) back to normal. From what we've heard about the illnesses
going around (chicken pox is rampant and there's a nasty stomach bug
going around) we've had it pretty "easy."

The house and yard are wonderful -- and we are so, so happy for the change.

Now I'm going to fall into bed. I'm exhausted!

Hope you're all well.

Moving day (when the moving company came to pack up our things at the
one place and drop everything off at the other) was Sept 10 and 11th.
By the time Mom's former student from Hungary, Dori, and her father came
for a visit on Sept. 28th we had almost all the boxes unpacked, things
put away (at least in the general "spot") and pictures hung on the
wall! Pretty impressive for such a short amount of time and all the
illnesses we coped with!! Mom took Dori and Andras for a very quick
trip down to Ayers Rock and Kings Canyon (1200km of driving). We did
the Kings Canyon hike (a 3 1/2 hour hike) at a gorgeous time of day and
were awestruck by the beautiful deep reds of the canyon.

They left on October 2nd and Grams and Gramps wound up coming in on the
4th of October (because their luggage was lost and they wound up having
to detour to Sydney and spend a night there). A bit more about their
visit in the next posting.
