Tree Hugging and all that
Last Sunday (30 July), the day after Logan's big birthday bash, it
happened to be National Tree Day in Australia (part of Planet Ark). So
Dad and Logan headed down for some male bonding time together and
gathered at a public park with other 'tree huggers' (one park of many
nationally planned around Australia for planting multitudes of trees).
We then got our fertilizer, a trowel, and chose a tree to plant. Logan
did very well in gathering mulch and digging a hole next to an
underground water drip outlet. After planting the tree, we protected it
from the elements with some stakes and a plastic sheet to go around.
Then as a final hurrah, we placed our names on a little sign in front of
the tree to signify our accomplishment... one small planting for son and
father-kind. Dad then got two seconds to contemplate the tree growing
throughout his and Logan's lifetime before Logan bounded away towards
the playground and for the free BBQ hot dogs (snags) and drinks being
provided.
Last night (Sunday 6 August), Dad was trying to relax after severely
spraining his ankle at soccer practice. He was getting cold while icing
his ankle and asked Logan if he could grab the blanket from under the
end table. Logan obediently did so and then lovingly snuggled under the
blanket with me. After a minute or two Logan took the TV remote control
and was about to turn the TV off, but Dad asked he not do that as there
was a news segment he was interested in finishing. Logan then pointed
the remote at Dad and said, "You are a TV and I am TURNING YOU OFF!"
Good thing his initial seriousness in the proclamation quickly
transitioned into chuckling and laughter or Dad would have to seriously
worry about his future.
One last comment. Dad is really enjoying getting to finally cuddle with
Delenn these days. She was such a Momma's Girl for what felt like ages,
however, at night now Delenn does a wonderful job of cuddling up into
Dad's chest or shoulders when being put back down to sleep and it really
warms Dad's very being with immense emotion and love for his little
girl. On a side note, Dad does still need Delenn's little teddy bear or
she'll continue to cry. But the second he shows it to her, quick as a
whip, Delenn plants her head right down on to Dad and starts heading
back into slumber land. Now if only Dad could get a bit more sleep then
that'd be keen too.
